Wynwood

From empty warehouses to the center of Miami's art scene.

For most of the 20th century, Wynwood was a working district of garment factories and warehouses. When the factories closed and moved away, the neighborhood was left with empty buildings and blocks of blank walls.

In the 2000s, artists and developers began turning those walls into canvases, and the Wynwood Walls opened in 2009 as an outdoor gallery of large-scale murals. Today the whole district is covered in street art, with galleries, cafes, breweries and bars filling the old warehouses.
